SUPPORTING PARENTS: FAMILY LEARNING
Education reform, particularly in relation to Every Child Matters ECM) and the Full-Service Extended School, requires all staff to make a difference for the better to every child’s life by improving the outcomes for all children and young people.
A key aspect of ECM and Extended service is Parenting Support which encompasses Family Learning.
The Learning Scaffold acts as external consultants for ContinYou. ContinYou is one of the UK's leading community learning organisations and its work encompasses extended services in schools, family learning, parental support, out-of-school-hours learning, health improvement and health literacy, young people, schools and communities, supplementary schools and community regeneration.
The Learning Scaffold delivers multi agency facilitator training for the following ContinYou programmes:
- SHARE
- SHARE Plus
- P4PP ( Preparing for Partnerships with Parents)
These programmes are designed to:
- Develop a parenting group
- Encourage parental involvement in children’s learning
- Provide family learning activities
- Signpost parents to further advice and support
- Accredit parents’ learning
We have worked with a number of LAs to deliver training and help set up network groups to share and promote good practice: These include:

- Bracknell - Forest
- West Berkshire
- Reading
- Poole
- Swindon
- Kent
- Oxford
